Farmside Village

Alexander, NC

Our firm was engaged to design a series of seven modern rental cabins located on a serene wooded hilltop in Alexander, North Carolina. Designed as private, fully furnished vacation getaways, these one- and two-bedroom cabins offer a tranquil mountain retreat just minutes from Asheville, blending comfort, functionality, and natural beauty.

The goal of this project was to create a cohesive, small-scale hospitality experience that felt both modern and deeply connected to its natural surroundings. Each cabin is thoughtfully positioned to maximize privacy, forest views, and the sense of seclusion, while maintaining easy access via shared pathways and driveways. Nestled into the hillside, the cabins make minimal impact on the landscape while offering expansive views of the surrounding woods.

Architecturally, the cabins combine clean lines and contemporary forms with warm, natural materials such as wood siding, exposed beams, and large windows that draw the outdoors in. Generous porches extend the living space and allow guests to enjoy the changing seasons, while interior amenities like full kitchens, fireplaces, and open-concept living areas ensure year-round comfort.

Sustainability and inclusivity were key drivers in the design process. One of the two-bedroom cabins was carefully designed to meet ADA compliance standards, providing wheelchair accessibility without sacrificing aesthetics or functionality. This commitment ensures that all guests, regardless of mobility needs, can enjoy the mountain retreat experience.

Whether serving as a romantic weekend escape or a base for outdoor adventures, these cabins offer a modern, nature-forward alternative to traditional vacation rentals. This project highlights our firm’s expertise in custom residential design, small-scale hospitality architecture, and sustainable building practices tailored to sensitive mountain environments.
