What began as an unfortunate event—a tree falling through the roof—became an opportunity for transformation. Our architecture firm was brought in to help the homeowners not only repair their damaged residence but to reimagine the home from the ground up. This project evolved into a full-scale residential renovation and second-story addition, breathing new life into the existing structure while adapting it for modern living.
Following the storm damage, the clients chose to maximize the rebuild opportunity by expanding upward. We worked closely with them to design a new second-story addition, which now houses additional bedrooms and flexible living space, significantly increasing the home’s functionality and overall square footage. The vertical expansion was seamlessly integrated into the existing footprint, with careful attention to proportion, materials, and roofline to ensure cohesion with the original structure.
In tandem with the new upper level, the main floor was completely redesigned to create a more open, contemporary layout. Walls were removed to improve flow between the kitchen, dining, and living areas, enhancing natural light and connection between interior spaces. Updated finishes, fixtures, and energy-efficient systems were incorporated throughout to align with the clients’ modern aesthetic and sustainability goals.
Structural improvements were made to meet current building codes and wind-load requirements, ensuring the home is more resilient to future weather events. Throughout the process, we navigated zoning constraints, permitting, and construction challenges to deliver a home that was not only repaired—but reborn.
