Appalachian Mountain Community Health Center at Dale Fell

77 McDowell St, Asheville, NC

This newly constructed Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serves as a vital resource for residents of Western North Carolina, providing access to professional, comprehensive medical care within a modern, clean, and thoughtfully designed environment. Our architectural team approached the project with a focus on creating a space that embodies both clinical excellence and the warm, natural aesthetic that Asheville is known for—offering patients a welcoming and calming atmosphere from the moment they enter.

Designed to support a broad range of medical services, this facility prioritizes patient-centered design principles, including clear wayfinding, comfortable waiting areas, and private treatment rooms that enhance privacy and reduce stress. The layout is optimized for operational efficiency, enabling healthcare providers to deliver high-quality care with ease while maintaining a friendly, approachable environment for patients.

Natural light and the use of biophilic design elements play a key role in the project, with large windows and carefully selected materials that bring the beauty of the surrounding Asheville landscape indoors. This connection to nature supports patient well-being and creates a calming backdrop for medical care.

Sustainability and energy efficiency were also key considerations. The building incorporates high-performance systems and materials that reduce energy consumption while maintaining indoor air quality—critical for a healthcare setting.

This project exemplifies our firm’s expertise in healthcare architecture and designing community health facilities that serve diverse populations with dignity and care. The center stands as a beacon of accessible healthcare in Western North Carolina, reflecting the values and natural beauty of Asheville while addressing essential community needs.
