Lofts at Biltmore

Biltmore Village, Asheville, NC

Our architecture firm was engaged to transform an existing office space into two thoughtfully designed residential apartments in the heart of Historic Biltmore Village, just minutes from the iconic Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. This adaptive reuse project exemplifies our firm’s expertise in balancing historic context with modern comfort—delivering elegant, light-filled living spaces in one of the city’s most architecturally significant districts.

Located within a charming early 20th-century structure, the original space was used as professional offices prior to renovation. Our design team was tasked with reimagining the interior layout to accommodate two private residential units, each with its own entrance, kitchen, bathroom, and living areas—while working within the constraints of the existing building envelope.

One of the standout features of the new apartments is the introduction of skylights, which dramatically enhance the sense of openness and natural light throughout the interiors. Vaulted ceilings and strategic sightlines give the compact floor plans a loft-like feel, perfect for modern urban living.

Careful attention was given to finishes and material selections that complement the building’s historic character while providing updated amenities. This included the use of neutral tones, natural wood elements, and energy-efficient fixtures throughout the units.

Given the property’s location in Biltmore Village, a designated historic district, the project required thoughtful navigation of local zoning regulations, design review processes, and code compliance specific to residential conversions in heritage areas. Our team worked closely with planning officials and preservation consultants to ensure that the renovation upheld the aesthetic integrity of the neighborhood.

This project highlights our firm’s strength in urban infill, historic renovation, and residential adaptive reuse—delivering high-quality housing options while preserving the unique architectural fabric of Asheville’s most treasured neighborhoods.
