Timberline Revival

Bent Creek, West Asheville, NC

This comprehensive renovation of an existing log cabin showcases Form & Function Architecture’s ability to breathe new life into older structures while preserving their rustic charm. Nestled in the wooded landscape of Western North Carolina, the cabin had strong bones and character but required significant updates to meet modern living standards and aesthetic preferences.

Our design approach for this residential renovation project focused on enhancing both functionality and livability, while respecting the original craftsmanship of the log structure. The scope of work included a full kitchen remodel, a brand-new deck design, and a complete upfit of the unfinished basement, transforming the home into a warm, inviting, and highly usable space for year-round enjoyment.

The kitchen renovation was designed to improve flow, increase storage, and bring in natural light while incorporating modern appliances and rustic finishes that blend seamlessly with the cabin’s existing materials. Custom cabinetry, natural wood surfaces, and updated lighting create a functional yet cozy heart of the home.

One of the standout features of the renovation is the new deck, which extends the living space outdoors and offers an ideal setting for entertaining, relaxing, or enjoying the surrounding forest views. Built for durability and designed to complement the natural aesthetic of the cabin, the deck serves as a seamless transition between indoor comfort and outdoor living.

The basement upfit was a major component of the renovation, converting an underutilized space into a fully finished lower level with flexible living, recreation, and storage areas. Additional design details throughout the home—such as a new custom banister—reflect thoughtful craftsmanship and attention to the character of the original structure.

This log cabin renovation is a perfect example of how timeless architecture can be updated for modern living. At Form & Function Architecture, we specialize in residential remodels that honor a home’s history while preparing it for the future.
